Circa 19th century AD or later A sheet-bronze plaque with decorative silver inlay; the plaque formed as a hollow sheet-bronze square with rosette-shaped recess to the upper face; to the sides, punched-point calligraphic text; to the rim of the upper face, inlaid silver calligraphic text and arabesque ornament; to the inner faces of the rosette, opposed pairs of birds some with human faces; to the centre, panels of arabesque design surrounding a band of calligraphic text in silver inlay; the central design in silver inlay, a pair of males advancing, grasping a pole between them and each with a bird on his knee, the pole emanating from the head of an ox below, with a second ox-head above. Bronze, 905 grams, 30 cm (12") Property of a London collector, acquired early 1960's. [No Reserve]
