Circa 19th century AD A hollow cast bronze celestial sphere formed as two conjoined halves, each with radiating panels traversed by circumferential bands; the panels in the upper sector with images of vegetation, birds, beasts, children and a boy on a bear; in the lower sector mermaids, a walled town, vegetation, a centaur and a serpent; the bands with cursive charcters in panels; pierced at top and bottom. Bronze, 980 grams, 18 cm diameter (7") UK art and antiquities market, acquired prior to 1990.
