Western Han Dynasty, 206 BC-220 AD A large cast bronze vessel, square in plan with separate lid; the body swollen below with trapezoidal base and thickened rim; the lid pyramidal with four loops in the form of stylised phoenix birds; to the shoulders, two bronze rings each attached to an applied grotesque mask. Bronze, 4.8 kg, 44 cm (17 1/2") Property of a European Gentleman living in London; acquired in the UK before 1980. [No Reserve]
