Circa 10th-12th century AD A restrung necklace of spherical and biconical tumbaga beads; Peruvian workmanship. Tumbaga, 39 grams, 39 cm. (15 1/4") Ex Yagello collection; acquired in a Paris gallery, circa 2000. 'Tumbaga' is the name given by the Spanish to an alloy of gold and copper which they found in widespread use in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica and South America.
