American double-rifle/shotgun combination side by side by L&D Coon with Cooper New York marked locks. The combination gun measures 50in overall, with 34in side by side barrels. The right barrel is approx. .36 caliber, the left barrel approx. .56 caliber smooth bore. The buck and ball gun shows side by side hammers with two triggers and classic half-stock American styling, circa 1860s. The left side of the cheek piece is inlaid with a large engraved American eagle. The right side of the stock shows a nicely engraved patch box in oval shape. The metal surfaces show a brown patina with some light to moderate scattered erosion and pitting and some slightly heavier pitting on the edges and breech. The markings are good. An attractive American gun of the Civil War era reminding one of the Lematt Confederate revolver using both Minnie ball and shot barrels. Note: eagle inlay with wings down.
