Description

AUSTRIAN IMPORTED CUT GLASS & GARNET JEWELED DRESSER JAR, LATE 19TH CENTURY, H 5", DIA 4":Cut glass jar with removable cover centered by a silvered metal figure of man with flag, set with Bohemian garnets about. The finial is stamped with several markings, most are illegible, but one appears to be the Austrian mark used to indicate 0.800 silver (a dog's head enclosed) and 2 markings that indicate a foreign made item (a wing with a 4 at one side and a letter at the other-also indicating 0.800 silver), also stamped with initials "JM" within a circle and "H2" within a rectangle (possibly Finnish, as the same marking is the Finnish date letter for 1842).

Condition

Several chips to the interior of the rim of the cover, three of significant size. There is a small chip to the rim of the jar and several small nicks to the cut design on the body. RG
