Description

Queen Anne-Style Walnut Secretary-Bookcase, fourth quarter 18th century, the molded cornice above two cupboard doors, each inset with a shaped panel, the lower section fitted with a slant front opening to an inset leather writing surface, double storage wells and a variety of drawers and cubbyholes flanking a central cupboard with two short drawers and two long graduated drawers below, raised on bun feet, h. 87", w. 40-1/2", d. 23".

Condition

In good condition with some restorations. There are some separations to the mitered corners of the crown molding at the top. Old shrinkage cracks to the various moldings throughout. Various filled shrinkage cracks to the sides of the lower case. The hinges on the upper doors are replacements. The wood panels of the upper doors may be later replacements, however, the 1-1/2" chamfered borders around the doors are not original. The doors may have had mirrors originally. The slant lid rubs along the right edge when closed and may need to have its hinges adjusted slightly. Good overall color and finish to the wood. Width measurements: Top crown molding 41-1/2" Bookcase 38-1/2" Molding above the lower drawers 41" Base molding above the feet 42-1/2"
