English Rosewood Victorian Lap Desk, second quarter 19th century, in the campaign style with brass corners and bands, the shield-shaped name plate on the cover reads, "P. Ross", the writing slope lined with gilt tooled purple leather, h. 6-3/4", w. 15-1/2", d. 9-1/4".
It is in overall very good condtion, with a few minor signs of age. There are minor surface scratches to left top of lid, a veneer loss of about 1/4" by 3" on left side adjacent to brass mount, and veneer buckling in the corresponding position on the right side. The interior, which is lined in brilliant lavender leather, has a missing shield shaped escutcheon, a missing ribbon pull, missing ink bottles, and a shrinkage crack of about two inches where the lift top meets the writing surface.
