Magnificent c 1805 Liverpool Creamware Pitcher “PEACE, PLENTY and INDEPENDENCE” & 15-Star Flag US Ship c. 1805 Early Federal Period, Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher “PEACE, PLENTY and INDEPENDENCE” and Two Masted U.S. Sailing Ship Flying a 15-Star Flag, Choice Extremely Fine. This quality Liverpool Creamware Pitcher by Herculaneum measures 9” tall x 5.5” at its base. There are three black transfers displayed. One side has “Peace, Plenty and Independence.” This transfer design is listed as P.14 on page 147 in “Anglo-American Ceramics Part I” by Arman. The other side has a two masted Sailing Ship under full sail, sailors on board, flying a 15-Star American flag. Under the spout is a Seal of the United States. It has an Heraldic Eagle with shield holding three arrows and and olive branch, rays with Fifteen Stars above and Rays with a banner “E PLURBUS UNUM” below, that transfer design being listed as S.29 on page 166 in Arman. The pitcher is clean and fresh looking with deep black transfers. There is only slight expected friction to the top rim edge, handle and bottom base, apparently as having only been used on display as decoration in its past. One of the most beautiful examples of this impressive nautical design we have seen and offered. An outstanding Historic Liverpool Pitcher for display due to its superior eye appeal. In 1795, two stars were added to the United States Flag, representing Kentucky and Vermont, bringing the total number of stars to 15. Two stripes were added to make a total of 15 stripes. This was the only U.S. flag to have fifteen stripes. In 1818, Congress proclaimed that one star for each new state would be added on the 4th of July following the state's admission to the union and there would be thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies. The 15 star flag flew over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 and inspired the writing of the National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
