A CHINESE GREEN POTTERY LIAN, Han Dynasty 206 B.C. - A.D. 220. Of circular form with a band of molded animals, hill shaped cover representing the isles of the Taoist Immortals, the base is supported by three crouching bears - 12 in. high. These Lian were used as boxes for cosmetics, a similar piece is at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. See Cecile and Michel Beurdeley "Chinese Ceramics", ill. p.17., pl. 30.
