John Buckland-Wright (1897-1954) Etchings for the Double Crown Club 105th Dinner Menu
an exceptionally rare collection of working proofs for an engraved menu by Buckland-Wright, including seven impressions of the maiden scattering flowers, 2 with extensive hand-colouring in crayon, seven impressions of the seahorse, three with hand-colouring in crayon, six impressions of each of the vignettes, two of each with extensive hand-colouring in crayon, a lithographic colour chart, a proof of the menu before letters, and a copy of the published menu, all with annotations and additions by the artist in either pencil or blue ball-point pen, on eight sheets, various sizes This rare group is a fascinating insight into the working methods of Buckland-Wright. It appears that the final menu was printed in reverse from plastic plates, the images being transferred from the copper by the printer and the colour printed from three lithographic stones
