SULFUR CRYSTALS SPECIMEN
Potosí, Bolivia
High in the Andes, a seething volcanic hotbed produced this specimen of quality native sulfur. Sulfur can occur in various shades of yellow and brown, but the specimens from this region of southwestern Bolivia are of exceptional purity, resulting in an incredible carpet of sparkling, startling bright yellow crystals. Known in olden times as brimstone, sulfur has a faint but distinctive smell, such as that of burnt matches (not, thankfully, the rotten-egg smell of hydrogen sulfide). This fine specimen displays blazing color, large vertical crystal forms, and incredible scintillation, 266 mm wide.
