This gorgeously carved and polished piece of black volcanic glass is the Mexican rainbow obsidian, famed for the lamellar crystallites that create an amazing array of regular banded colors. This is a particularly vivid specimen, lined with gold, green, purple, blue, red and all shades in between, in uncannily regular formation across the surface of the highly polished freeform and is one of the best to have been offered at auction. It is 5 1/2 inches long.
