HEMIMORPHITE SPHERE
Wenshan, Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China
This is an exceptionally beautiful example of a rare zinc silicate, found in only a handful of localities around the world. The wonderfully delicate pale blue is interspersed with wispy clouds of white, recalling nothing so much as the calmest, coolest sky of a beautiful summer’s day. Frequently found with druzy surfaces, hemimorphite is difficult to polish into a sphere, but is presented here as a beautiful example of the lapidarist’s skill with a highly aesthetic mineral, measuring 3 1/2 inches in diameter, on a ring stand.
