RARE AND COMPLETE METEORITE
Uruaça – Iron, IAB-MG
Goiás, Brazil
Discovered by a farmer in 1992, initially in only four masses, the Uruaçu has become a highly desirable and collectible meteorite, as much for its aesthetic appearance as for its rarity. It has been dubbed the “New Campo” for its similarity to those famed Argentinean meteorites, but the present specimen surpasses the comparison. Of remarkable form, it boasts an unusual slender protrusion from the main, trigonal mass, giving it the appearance of something like a heavy anchor. In addition to a large and distinct scoop in the body of the meteorite, there is also a most unusual, deep round indentation, as though a small ping pong ball had been pressed deep inside the malleable metal and removed. Covered with a highly textured gun metal fusion crust generously mottled with orange and pale gray, it makes for a highly unusual and aesthetic specimen of a highly desirable meteorite, measuring approximately 35.5 x 33.0 x 20.3 cm, and weighing 36kg.
