OLD MASTER OIL ON CANVAS, 18TH CENTURY, 70" X 49 1/2", 'HEBE AND JUPITER':Allegorical painting featuring the Greek goddess "Hebe" with the eagle "Jupiter". Framed.
Because of the position of the very large painting on the exhibition floor with a large table in front of it, the bottom part of the painting was not able to be completely viewed and therefore, under UV light: at least c. 15% overpainting is showing but as much as 25% to 35% is possible; there is some overpainting in the body of Hebe but not in her face, also there is some turning green under UV light in the lower part of the painting hindering an accurate assessment of the amount of overpainting as well; lined; stable craquelure; slight soiling; replaced stretchers; later 20th c. museum quality massive gilt frame with highly raised laurel leaf motif.
