Krasny nabat. Na front dobrovol'tsy. [Red Alarm. To the Front, Volunteers!], a poster based on a woodcut by Alexandr Bykhovsky (1888-1978). Published by the Gomel branch of GIZ, Gomel, July 1920, 71 x44.5 cm.
The unusual life story of Alexandr Bykhovsky is well worth retelling; but for the purposes of this catalog, it is sufficient to say that during the Civil War he was actively involved in poster production. He was the subject of the 1926 book Graphics of A. Bykhovsky by the important Soviet art critic L. Vygotsky; in 2005, the Pushkin Museum organized a retrospective of his works.
