Ty ne zabyl podpisat'sya na gazetu “Vlast' Truda”? [You Didn't Forget to Subscribe to the “Vlast' Truda” Newspaper, Did You?], a poster by an anonymous artist. Printed at the Oktyabr' Printing Works, Ufa, , 54 x36 cm.
Vlast' Truda [Labor Power] was first published as the official newspaper of the Ufa Soviet (1922) and then became the official state newspaper of the Bashkir (modern name: Bashkortostan) Autonomous Republic. Given that in January 1925, its name was changed to Krasnaya Bashkiriya, and that quoted subscription prices are expressed in the post-hyperinflation currency, our 1924 dating appears fairly certain.
Vlast' Truda was a fairly small newspaper - its stated goal for 1924 was to have 5,000 paid subscribers. Lacking the equipment to print photographs, it regularly featured drawings and caricatures, and in 1925 had even launched a local satirical magazine, Bashkirsky Krokodil. Unfortunately, all graphic submissions appeared unsigned.
