Ty chlen profsoyuza. A zapisalsya li ty v kooperativ? [You Belong to a Trade Union, But Have You Signed Up To Become a Member of the (Consumer) Cooperative?], a poster by V. Sv[arog] (Vasily Kurochkin, 1893-1946). Published by Tsentrsoyuz, the All-Russian Central Union of Consumer Cooperatives. Moscow, 1927, 103 x 68.5 cm.
In 1906, a group of benefactors in Vasily Kurochkin's hometown raised money to send the 13-year old prodigy, who came from a very poor family, to study art in St. Petersburg. He went on to become a highly successful artist, winning a number of major art competitions before and after the Revolution.
Because of some damage to the bottom margin around the imprint area, the name of the artist is only partially legible. The attribution to Svarog , provided by the consignor, seems reasonable, but may require further verification.
