A great ivory fist and whalebone nautical cane. Made of one piece of tooth, the whale ivory handle is 1 2/3" high and 1 2/3" at its widest. It depicts a detailed fist holding a scroll or rod. There are two exotic wood separators along with one of ivory on a smooth, straight whalebone shaft. There are baleen-rimmed eyelets with an old rawhide cord for hanging. A 1" burnished brass ferrule completes the piece. The overall length is 33 3/4" and the condition is very good. It is perhaps English, ca 1860, and it is a very fine nautical example. Estimate: $2000-$3000.
