Description
A great Blue John and malacca cane. The very large Blue John mushroom knob handle is 1" thick and 2 1/4" across the top. It has light and dark purple tones as well as areas of off-white. (Blue John is a blue or purple fibrous variety of fluorspar occurring only in Derbyshire, England. It was used for vases, handles, jewelry and other objet d'art. It is scarce and very desirable.) It sits atop a 1 1/2" silver cup-collar on a honey-toned malacca shaft with 1" brass ferrule. The overall length is 35 1/4" and the condition is excellent. It is ca 1895, and it is the largest Blue John cane handle that we have encountered. Estimate: $1800-$2800.
