Description
A great carved wood cane of a suffragette. The dark hardwood handle is 5 1/2" high and 2" at its widest. It depicts a standing woman with white sulfide glass eyes dressed in typical Victorian manner including attire, feathered hat, bouffant hairdo, bustle, etc. She has the determined look of a suffragette. There is a thin wood ring collar on a mahoganized malacca shaft with a 1 1/8" horn ferrule. The overall length is 37 1/4" and the condition is very good. It is probably English, ca 1895, and it is a very fine example of a character cane. Estimate: $1000-$1500.
