Item Details
Description
An elegant English silver flask cane. The smooth silver knob handle is 2" high and 1 1/4" in diameter. There are maker's marks, "R.A.", and London hallmarks for 1905. The handle unscrews from a brass fitting so that a 15" glass flask, capped with a tight rubber cork, can be withdrawn. The flask contains a light brown liquid, perhaps Scotch whiskey. The silver handle can be inverted to act as a glass for sharing. The shaft is ebonized hardwood with a 1 1/3" aged horn ferrule. The overall length is 36" and the condition is very good, with some light dents at the handle top. It is a very nice example of a drinking gadget cane, illustrations of which are shown on page 24 of Dike's Cane Curiosa. Estimate: $550-$750.
