A superb formal evening cane of gold and snakewood. The solid gold cap handle is 1/2" high and 3/4" in diameter. It is engraved with a fancy "W" for the owner. The shaft is very nicely figured snakewood with no cracks or checking. Oval solid gold floral- decorated eyelets are present and the stick ends with a 1" burnished brass and iron ferrule. The overall length is 34 7/8" and the condition is excellent. It is perhaps American, ca 1860, expensive in its day, and a superior example of the kind. Estimate: $1000-$1500.
