Description

A fine brass and copper Chinese sword cane curio. It is made entirely of brass with copper highlights and it has a mushroom shaped knob handle that measures 3/4" high and 1 1/4" across the top. There is incised decoration on the top as well as the Chinese symbol for double happiness. The shaft is signed in Chinese below the handle and there are images of a Sage as well as Chinese children each highlighted in copper, among trees and foliage that extend down the shaft to a short round ferrule. Four and seven eighths inches below the handle the shaft can separate from a friction fitting to reveal a 20" triangular sword with three blood grooves and a sharp point. The overall length is 33 1/4" and the condition is very good. It was undoubtedly made for export to the West in about the first quarter of the 20th Century. It is a very nicely fashioned example. Estimate: $650-$850.
