Item Details
Description
A great carved wood cane of English jockey Fred Archer. The hardwood handle is 3" high and 2" at its widest. It depicts the famous English jockey, Fred Archer. He has white and black porcelain eyes and is wearing his familiar jockey helmet. There is a 1 3/4" decorated silver collar with worn London hallmarks and a worn presentation with the year "1900" visible. The shaft is malacca with a 1 1/4" horn ferrule. The overall length is 36 2/3" and the condition is very good. (Fred Archer was born in 1857. He was a brilliant jockey and accumulated statistics that were not exceeded for many years. Unfortunately, he suffered from depression and tragically committed suicide in 1886, at the very young age of 29. A short biographical paper with a picture will accompany this lot.) Estimate: $650-$850.
