Artist: J. MONTANYA Size: 30 7/8 x 44 7/8 in./78.2 x 114 cm I.G. Seix & Barral, Barcelona March 15, 1919 marked opening day of Barcelona’s first automobile show. Held at the Palace of Fine Arts, the exhibition lasted through March 25, and showcased the various makes of car as if they were the latest Parisian fashions. Citroen made its debut that year, as did one of the earliest ‘economy’ vehicles. There was also a special section dedicated to airplanes. Here, Montanya gives us a spectacular design, contrasting the enthusiastic throngs headed into the show alongside the lush pageantry of wealth interested in taking part in the many glamorous activities associated with exhibit. A rare and beautiful design.
