La Vie Parisienne. Ca. 1912
Artist: LUCIEN MÉTIVET (1863-1932) Size: 23 5/8 x 16 in./60 x 41 cm Imp. P. Vercasson, Paris First published in 1863, La Vie Parisienne was one of the most popular French periodicals around the turn of the century. While it originally acted as a serious guide to the arts and haute mode, it gradually found its audience as a bawdy gossip rag peppered with short stories, cartoons, fashion advice, and even financial reports. Here, Metivet does a wonderful job of imitating the style of the most prominent caricaturists of the era, including Cappiello, Sem, Bac, Mich, Vallet, Goussé, and Jeaunniot.
