Florentine Jewel Casket, 18th century
Italian, rectangular form, with ebonized frame, deeply carved mahogany side panels with griffin and scrollwork design against a stippled ground, the hinged cover with carved and domed panels all surmounted by a fully carved lion passant, velvet lined interior.
7.5 x 10.75 x 7.5 in.
Some loss to two corners of hinged lid; minor scattered flaking and chips to the box; the finial broken and re-glued incorrectly with loss to tail.
