Description
Unusual Cut and Molded Sheet Metal Centaur Weathervane. c. third quarter of the 19th century. The bearded figure of the centaur seen in silhouette with foreleg raised, and arm grasping a thickly molded and shaped bow and arrow. The figure outlined with wrought iron and molded zinc mounted on rod. 3-D cut out with reinforced steel bar. Some environmental wear, otherwise great condition. 60” h x 71” long x 2.5”. Provenance: The weathervane presumably came from the Manchester, NH vicinity. Adele Earnest and Cordelia Hamilton, Stony Point Folk Art Gallery, ex.
