Antiquities: Six Buddhist Ritual Votive Tablet Sea

View Catalog

img0 1

Description

Antiquities: six Buddhist ritual votive tablet seals. Probably Burma or Bodh Gaya area, Bihar, North Eastern India. Of variously coloured clays and differing forms, each relief-moulded with an image of the Buddha, five seated, one standing, five encased in clear perspex with wax-sealed back, ranging from 0.6" to 2", (1.5cm to 5cm) high, (6)

Condition

Each apparently excavated and retaining some dirt/dust. Five encased behind perspex so therefore hard to assess condition - but no breaks/losses/restoration detected, however the largest (with standing figure) has dirt discolouration. The single loose example has dirt and a small flake loss to lower left corner. Overall acceptable excavated condition.
