Harpers Ferry Model 1803 rifle dated 1814 on the lockplate with a "US" on the eagle's shield. It has a 60 caliber smoothbore 36" octagon to round barrel, converted to percussion, with sunken "US" and eagle over "P" proof marks. The stock, with nice color, has a cartouche on the flat opposite the lock, the nmber "48", and subinspector initials "V/PH" on the tail. Some crackng is on the left side. The iron has a smooth patina but is missing the rear sight.
