1005: Exhibition Quality Gold Inlaid Reinhard Stahl, Ma
This is a fine example of a German Martini style sporting rifle which features a fluted octagon barrel with a dovetailed blade front sight and adjustable rear sight. The top of the barrel is marked in gold inlay "REINHARD STAHL, SUHL" and the breech end has a wedge of scroll gold inlay and three gold inlaid bands. The action has gold inlaid wire and scroll border accents. The top of the breech block, trigger guard, rear cleaning rod pipe and stock wedge escutcheons also have gold inlaid bordering. The action is fitted with a massive trigger guard, with a large two-piece lever that lowers the breech block and cocks the hammer at the same time, and the trigger is located to the rear of the lever. The breech block, lever, hammer and trigger are casehardened, with blue remaining parts. Mounted with a full Mannlicher style walnut forearm, with raised relief carved oak leaf motif at the breech, horn forend and a rosewood cleaning rod with horn tip, nicely figured straight grip stock with a Swiss pattern cheek piece a flat steel buttplate, and sling swivels.
BBL: 27 3/4 inch octagon
Gauge: 11 mm
Serial Number: NSN
Very fine. The rifle retains 40% scattered original blue finish mixed with a smooth brown patina. The breech block retains 60% original bright case colors with strong case colors in protected areas of the remaining parts. All of the gold inlay remains. The wood is also very fine with almost all of the original finish remaining and showing a few overall scattered minor scratches and dents. The action is excellent.
