Daniel Webster (1782-1852) Politician. Webster was a nineteenth-century lawyer, representative, senator, secretary of state, and one of the great orators in American history. A man of prodigious talent and great political ambition, Webster reversed himself on issues involving the economy and slavery in hopes of becoming president.
