A Chronic Drunk "Sells" His Slaves. Manuscript Document, being the "Deposition of James Muloy", 3pp., 8" by 13", no place, no date, (circa 1853), held together by a brass bracket. in Very Fine condition. A drunk and his wife have died, and at issue is to whom his slaves belong. "Int 2. State if Lewis G. Dupree or Julia E. Dupree, one or both ever told you that they had sold their negroes to Philip M. Cuney... Answer: Both..told me they had sold all their negroes to Philip M. Cuney... Int. 3rd - ... How often did you hear them speak of the sale? Answer - ...Two or three times...Int. 4th. - ...What business was the said Lewis G. Dupree engaged in? How did he support himself, and family? Did you ever hear Dupree say, who furnished him with provisions, clothing, money... Answer: He (Dupree) was not engaged in any business...He drank a great deal and was intoxicated nearly, if not all the time. I do not know how he supported himself & family...Int. 5 - Examine the paper...and state all you know relative to every item there...Answer - ...1 Bbl Whiskey.
