18TH CENTURY IRISH MARQUETRY GAMING TABLE IN THE MANNER OF MOORE OF DUBLIN

The table is supported by straight tapered legs having satinwood edge inlay and a raised and edged kingwood band to deliniate a foot. The top of burr elm with kingwood edge banding and satinwood stringer inlay gives deliniation to a paneled design with a marquetry pinwheel inlay in of pearwood,satinwood and ebony at the center back. The flip top is supported at the rear by a gate leg, opening to reveal a rasberry felt gaming surface, a later replacement.

The fan inlaid top is characteristic of the work of William Moore of Dublin who established his workshops there in 1782.

Condition: Numerous areas of missing veneers and poor repairs. Age wear and discoloration to the finish with tape residue to the top. The whole slightly unstable needing joint repair. Closed: 29 x 39 x 18 inches
