Description
1939 Lou Gehrig Final Game of Historic Streak Ticket Stub. A zero-for-four performance in this two to one loss to the Washington Senators in the Bronx lowered the Iron Horse's batting average to a dreadful .143, and extinguished the last bit of hope the Hall of Fame first baseman held that his struggles were only temporary. Little did the fan who held this stub in his shirt pocket know that he had just witnessed the final game of baseball's longest consecutive game streak. The modest green rectangle bears the image of the World's Fair Trylon and Perisphere, and the date of April 30, 1939, one that would break a million Yankee hearts. While tickets from his Independence Day farewell and the 1941 memorial game are occasionally seen in the hobby marketplace, this stub is considerably more rare, as the significance of the date only came into focus afterwards. Mild general handling results in a rather stingy VG 3 grade from PSA. Encapsulated by PSA, VG 3.
