Description

1940 First Night Game in St. Louis Game Used Baseball. The great Bob Feller helped his own cause with a rare pitcher's long ball and got the first ever night game win at St. Louis' Sportsman's Park on May 24, 1940, a season during which four Big League clubs lit up the night for the first time. Heavily shellacked OAL (Harridge) ball bears a fan's notations, which read as follows:

"May 24, 1940, First night ball game played in St. Louis, Score Cleveland 3 runs-9 hits-1 error, Browns 2 runs-7 hits-0 Er., Cleveland Feller-Pitcher, Hemsley-Catcher, Browns Auker-Pitcher, Swift-Catcher, Home Runs Feller-3rd, This ball was fouled in stands by Harold Clift, 3rd baseman of Browns."

A later black sharpie sweet spot signature from Feller completes the package. This is the only ball we've encountered from this important game, and we expect it to be the last as well, so bid accordingly. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph). Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
