A pair of handwritten letters from Craig discuss his acquisition of this ONL (Giles) ball. A selection:

"This was my rookie year and I was bound and determined to get the last ball...I'm not sure if I was the last pitcher or not. I don't have a record of that, but I do no (sic) it is the last ball of the season. Not the World Series."

This handwriting perfectly matches the much older blue fountain pen that spans the sweet spot of the toned horsehide, which reads "Last ball of the Dodgers 1955 season." The ball was originally offered in a 1998 auction of "The Roger Craig Collection" which included Craig's 1955 Championship ring and other Brooklyn treasures.
