Description
1940's Famed Matador Manolete Owned & Worn Double Breasted Suit with Photo Documentation. A gift from Manolete's distraught mother to close family friend Marshall Sanchez Salinas was this heavy wool pinstriped navy suit with label at interior breast from "
Arroyo-h. nos, Madrid." Salinas explains that this was a favorite of Manolete's, and provides a pair of photographs of the legendary bullfighter out on the town while wearing it. The distinctive patterns of the pinstripes of the suit are a perfect match to the provided imagery. The high-quality satin lined garment remains in splendid condition, and appears to measure to approximately an American size 38 (European 48), befitting the matador's wiry frame. Salinas' included letter of provenance reads, in part:
I write to identify the suit that accompanies this letter as the personal property of Manuel Rodriguez (Manolete). He was photographed in this suit on many occasions.
