Description
Circa 1888 Jake Kilrain Commemorative Silk. Gorgeous period commemorative silk celebrates the exploits of International Boxing Hall of Famer Kilrain, best remembered today for his brutal seventy-five round battle with the great John L. Sullivan in July of 1889. Kilrain was awarded the Police Gazette Champion Belt for his December 1887 victory over Jem Smith, so the piece must date to the period between these two bouts. The delicate silk relic measures just over thirty inches square with some dye bleed and damage at upper right, but it still presents very nicely considering its age and construction. Attractively framed to 36x37".
