Description
1933 John Heydler Signed Letter of Invitation to Gabby Hartnett for First All-Star Game. Enormously significant correspondence is the only invitation to participate in the inaugural All-Star Game we've ever encountered, and there's every reason to believe none other have survived to this day. In a letter typed on "The National League" letterhead, dated June 23, 1933, Heydler writes, in part, "Dear Mr. Hartnett: This is to formally notify you of your selection as one of the players for the contest between representative teams of the National and American Leagues, to be played at Comiskey Part, Chicago, Thursday, July 6, at 1:15 P.M." The letter is slightly trimmed for placement in Hartnett's scrapbook, and it remains affixed to that page. A bit of staining affects Heydler's 8/10 closing signature, and original mailing folds are evident, but the page otherwise shows nothing more significant than general handling wear. An extraordinary prenatal relic of Midsummer Classic history. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
