A COMPANION PAIR OF CHINESE CELADON CERAMIC LIDDED JARS
Late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
Each jar in the form of an ancient funerary urn; having a fully modeled qilin (a mystical hooved animal) on the domed lid and three or four around the shoulder, with a low relief floral and foliate register below; unsigned.
Condition: Tip of ear on one lid qilin broken off; front thigh and knee on another qilin broken off and repaired. Surfaces crackled. Manufacturing cracks on lip and neck of one vase; some smaller ones on qilins on both jars.
19 ¾ x 8 ½ x 8 ½ inches (50.1 x 21.5 x 21.5 cm).
Two pieces total.
