Iconic Painting of Two Saints. Russian, pre 1880, tempera on board. Description verso states: Saints Zosima and Sabbatius recognized as the founders of the cloister on the Solovki Islands in the White Sea during the 15th century. A sign of the Mother of God blesses them from heaven. Painted board has two "back slats" or battens verso and the face is clad or framed with embossed metal called a riza or oklad(robe). 12 1/4"h. X 10 1/4"w.
Condition: Good with use and age wear.
