Civil War Parrott Shell and Stafford Shell
Lot includes one 3" Parrott projectile, weight 8lbs. 5ozs., 8" tall with Hotchkiss brass fuse plug. Tag says this shell was found on Gettysburg. In September 1864 the Ordnance Board ordered that Parrott projectiles be used exclusivley in Parrott guns, and Hotchkiss projectiles when Parrott were exhausted. Also included is one Stafford 3" projectile, weight 8lbs. 7ozs., 8.25" tall, brass sabot. This is the shell variety of the patented Charles W. Stafford projectile.
