Rare Confederate Brass Gang Mold Alabama Maker
This all brass gang mold measures 12.5" and weighs over 3lbs. This mold casts four 3-ring .69 caliber minie bullets. Two-line maker's address J.F. Dittrich/ Mobile and plus CSA marked by a different die stamp. Also stamped in handle "Found On Bull Run Battlefield." Notably, the book Confederate Rifles and Muskets mentions this mold on page 505, indicating that the accounts of Asst. Quartermaster General Duff Green of Alabama show a payment of $75.00 to J.F. Dittrich in Feb. 1861 for three bullet molds. This piece is out of the Flayderman Collection.
