first edition, half-title, lacking engraved frontispiece and the advertisement leaf at end, contemporary ink signature of James Sawyer at foot of final leaf, a few spots or marks, half-title nicked at fore-edge (repaired), bound in handsome half citron morocco over marbled boards, by J.Larkins, morocco spine and L-shaped cornerpieces elaborately decorated with inlaid pieces of green and crimson morocco and stamped with angling motifs (fish, flies, creels and floats) against a background of small gilt dots, spine in compartments with similar inlays and motifs and five raised bands, small stain to rear marbled board, preserved in old cloth two-part slip-case, gilt roan label to spine, a little rubbed, [Thacher pp.52-53; W&S p.31], 12mo, for C.Stalker...H.Turpin, 1787.
