A Worcester transfer-printed mug, printed in black with the 'Whitton Anglers' and verso 'La Diseuse D'Aventure' patterns, the prints attributed to Robert Hancock, 12cm high, paper label for Geoffrey Hutchinson, circa 1770 See Simon Spiro & John Sandon, Worcester Porcelain 1751-1790 The Zorensky Collection (1996), p. 393, pl. 513 for a 4 3/4inch example. The printed source for the 'Whitton Anglers' comes from an engraving by William Wollett, A View of the Canal of the Gothic Tower in the Garden of His Grace The Duke of Argyl at Whitton, printed by Robt. Sayer of Fleet Street. The print verso is after an original by Laurent Cars of the painting by Watteau.
