Dutch Marquetry Bonheur de Jour
Unusual. Colonial, Late 19th Century.
Inlaid with bone and ebony, with tiered superstructure inlaid with floral and foliate scrolls, bone and ebony banded inlaid border, over a retractable roll top, inlaid with a floral spray surmounted by a screeching bird, the interior fitted with a velvet lined writing surface over a freize drawer, raised on squared tapering legs, headed by gilt capitals and joined by an x-form stretcher similarly inlaid and banded, further raised on gilt acanthus carved bun feet. 49"H. 28 1/2"W. 9 3/4"D.
Condition: very good, small loss to top rear right corner (1"), light flaking to left acanthus knee, age crack to back of top gallery, very slight shrinkage.
