19th century carved ivory and inlaid lacquer birdcage, attributed to the Ch'ien Lung period. Dome cage with ivory rod sides above a collar of lacquerware, inlaid mother of pearl insects and floral motif, ivory fittings and cloisonne' feed jar. All additional ivory fittings painted a cinnabar color. The base is all cinnabar. Provenance: Removed from the Imperial Palace in Peking by the Anglo-French troops who invaded in 1860.
